“I chose Carthage for a couple reasons. 1. It’s close to home. 2. The small class sizes (I came from a small school, so I was used to small class sizes). 3. It’s my mom’s alma mater (she passed away when I was 16, and after that, it put Carthage on the map for me as a possibility). I also received the Alumni Association Scholarship because my mom was an alumna.”

“One thing about Carthage that I love is the smaller classes, so I really get to know my professors. When I first came to campus, it felt weird being at college without my mom to help me, but my professors were all there to get me through my freshman year.”

“One of my favorite classes I’ve taken is Stagecraft. I loved the course because I got to learn about the technical side and construction side of theatre, which is something I didn’t have much experience with in high school.”

“My toughest classes are my music theory classes because I never learned much theory in high school, so it was different for me.”

“After I graduate, I want to be a high school choir teacher and possibly act on the side.”

“My favorite spot on campus is The Tower lounge that faces the lake. It is always so calm, and you can relax and get work done there.”

“My favorite event is the Christmas Festival. It is a one-of-a-kind event that everyone should experience.”

“My biggest surprise at Carthage is how amazing the professors actually are. In high school, my teachers always told me that college professors won’t be lenient, but most of them really are very lenient and caring.”

“Go to as many recitals and events as possible so you don’t have to make up recital attendance later.”

“I think my 8-year-old self would be very proud of where I am now and what I’m doing. It was around that age when I was really finding my love for music, and although I didn’t know I wanted to teach then, I would be happy with my current path.”
